Japanese Hada Kake Futon (Thin Quilt), Artisan Handmade (Fabric: Wazarashi Cotton, Filling: Organic Cotton 100% ) Single size

$42.25 $75.63
Description         Fabric : Wazarashi Cotton (Soft Gauze) 100 % Filling : Organic Cotton 100 %        “Hadakake” stands for “cover the skin” in Japanese. This our artisan made quilt is thinner and lighter than the standard kake futon. Its amount of cotton filling is half of that of the standard kake futon.  In Japan, this is usually used to adjust the temperature in your futon or bed when the season is changing from spring to summer, summer to autumn. It is when standard kake futon is too hot to sleep, but summer blanket is too cold. You can also use this when your bed room is too cold because of the air conditioner in summer time. Though this is called “Hadakake – cover the skin”, we recommend to use kake futon cover to maintain it clean. The covers for standard kake futon in single size will fit.              – Single size (78 x 59 in / 200 x 150 cm) Only –  We also have the standard (thicker) version of this kake futon.   Features of This Fabric   Filling Organic Cotton Filling    Raw Cotton Saucing Location We directly import cotton from the Murata Group in Gujarat, India's largest cotton-producing region. We use non-genetically modified, native varieties of cotton. In the clothing industry, long-fiber cotton, which is more comfortable to wear as clothing, is preferred and is being bred, but the cotton needed for futons is a native species. The characteristic of this cotton is its fiber thickness, which provides strong support, making it an ideal variety for use in mattresses. It is certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), one of the world’s most reliable organic certifications. GOTS certification is not only about ensuring that the raw fibers are organic; it also guarantees that all processes—from harvesting, processing, manufacturing, to distribution—are conducted in environmentally and socially responsible ways, with measures in place to prevent contamination or mixing with non-organic products. Below are the initiatives of Murata Group’s contract farmers, who comply with GOTS regulations and receive advice from CB: • Soil Management: Using only organic fertilizers and crop rotation and avoiding synthetic inputs. • Pest and Weed Management: Implementing IPM practices; using mechanical and biological methods. • Seeds and Planting Material: Using only organic, non-GMO seeds. • Water Management: Conserving water, ensuring clean irrigation sources and storage and reuse of water in Monsoons • Post-Harvest Handling: Preventing contamination with non-organic products and practices • Environmental Sustainability: Reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable land use. • Social Responsibility: Following fair labor practices and ensuring worker well-being. • Regular Inspections: Complying with regular inspections by the certifying body. The cotton that has been debris removed and carded into sheets at our factory.         What is a "Hadakake Futon"? There isn’t a strict definition or standard distinction between a hadakake futon and a kake futon. Both belong to the “kake futon” (quilt) category, meaning they are bedding used to cover the body. A hadakake futon is simply the lighter version, using about half the amount of cotton compared to a regular kake futon. The main difference lies in warmth: Kake futon: Warmer, thanks to a thicker cotton filling that traps heat. Hadakake futon: Lighter, more breathable, and helps prevent overheating while still providing gentle coverage. In Japan, kake futons are typically used for three seasons except summer, while hadakake futons are more common for three seasons except winter. Of course, comfort is personal—you can adjust by adding a blanket in winter, or by swapping the futon for a towel blanket on hot summer nights. Your ideal choice will depend on your climate, environment, and personal preferences. Some people enjoy the coziness of a warm futon even in summer, while others prefer the lighter feel of a hadakake futon. the weight of cotton filling Kake futon (standard quilt) Hadakake futon (thinner quilt) Single 7.9 lb / 3.6 kg 3.5 lb / 1.8 kg Single Long 9.9 lb / 4.5 kg  4.9 lb / 2.2 kg Semi Double 10.5 lb / 4.8 kg 5.2 lb / 2.4 kg Double 11.0 lb / 5.0 kg 5.5 lb / 2.5 kg Queen 12.1 lb / 5.5 kg 6.0 lb / 2.7 kg         Submit your reviewName: Email (Your email address will not be published.): Review Title: Rating: 12345Review:   Check this box to confirm you are human.Submit     CancelCreate your own reviewFuton TokyoAverage rating:   2 reviewsVanessa R Reed on Aug 29, 2022 5 out of 5 starsAug 29, 2022 by Vanessa R Reed on Aug 29, 2022 5 out of 5 starsItem is exactly as described, of high quality, and total comfort.Sarah on Apr 6, 2022Apr 6, 2022 by Sarah on Apr 6, 2022This is my first time owning a futon quilt and it is so soft and cozy!
