Silica Fume is used in high performance concrete as a Pozzolan to improve its properties. A Pozzolan is a material that when in the presence of water has a chemical reaction and forms compounds that possess cementitious properties. Silica Fume is an ultrafine material that is approximately 100 times smaller than the average cement particle. Due to its high silica content and fineness it is a very effective pozzolanic material.
