A cauldron would sit atop the hearth for preparing meals, while the heat exiting from behind warmed the room through the gorae (heat passage), and cold air escaped through the chimney. The ondol heating system worked by letting warm air rise from below, so the agungi was always placed lower than the room floor—typically 50 cm to 1 m lower. About the Soban:A soban is a small table used for serving dishes or carrying meals. In noble households, dozens of soban could be used, while ordinary households had several as well. Each person had their own table for meals, making soban an essential part of traditional Korean dining. It represents Korea’s seated dining culture and was widely used across social classes.
